The latest Chinese "god song" (an Internet term to describe pop songs that spread virally(病毒性地) through the Internet) is still stirring up fierce debates between those who view it as a milestone for Chinese pop music going global and those who regard it as a bad image of China.

Last week,Little Apple, written and performed by the Chopsticks Brothers, won the AMA International Song Award and the duo performed the song at the 2014 American Music Awards in Los Angeles. Another Chinese pop singer, Zhang Jie, won the International Artist Award.

But while fans of these singers are thinking highly of the awards and the performance by the Chopsticks Brothers at the AMA celebration, there are others who are less excited. They have questioned the value of the awards and what effects it will have on Chinese culture's "going abroad", claiming it may leave foreign audiences with a poor impression of Chinese pop music, and even Chinese culture.

The Little Apple phenomenon, both home and abroad, can be more easily understood and judged if we look at it from a business perspective rather than a cultural perspective. The professional promoters behind the duo have developed a clear strategy to promote the duo and their works, not just this particular song. Little Apple was originally released to promote the duo's film Old Boys: The Way of the Dragon.

From the very beginning a viral marketing strategy was used to promote the song, which immediately went viral on the Internet due to its repetitive rhythm, easy-to-remember lyrics, simple and funny dance and, most importantly, grass roots nature. The video accumulated more than 1 billion hits on China's major video websites.

Although the song was generally dismissed by music professionals who criticized it as "musical junk food", Little Apple's popularity nationally paved the way for promoting the duo internationally.

25. The writer’s attitude to the song of Little Apple is ______.

A. opposed

B. negative

C. objective

D. critical

26. What does the underlined words “the duo” refer to?

A. Little Apple.

B. Little Apple is generally thought worthless by the AMA

C. Little Apple is really popular with all people in China

D. Little Apple was originally released as a pop song on the Internet

Sunstroke is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn’t given immediately.

Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke, is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limits. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working.

It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat s unstroke.

Call for help

Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted(昏迷). Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you' re in a

public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an amb ulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn't much nearby.

Get the person to a cooler area

If there's a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a well-shaded area.

Get the water flowing

If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.

If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body. Focus on the face, neck, and chest.

Fan the person

Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt, your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.

28. When does a person get sunstroke?

A. When the body doesn't function.

B. When proper care is given immediately.

C. When someone is exposed to the sun too long.

D. When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear.

29. What is mainly discussed in the passage?

A. The first aid for sunstroke.

B. The cause of sunstroke.

C. The chief symptoms of sunstroke.

D. The essential prevention of sunstroke.

30. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text?

A. Call for assistance from others.

B. Leave the sunstroke person in the shade.

C. Put a wet towel on the person's face.

D. Help the person take some medicine.

31. The text probably comes from____________.

A. a guide book

B. a book review

C. a medical magazine

D. an official document

I used to joke that I spoke French like a 3-year-old. Until I met a French 3-year-old and couldn’t keep the conversation. This was after a year of intense study, including at least two hours a day with Rosetta Stone, Fluenz and other self-instruction software, joining study groups and watching French movies. However, my failure at French was the best thing I could have done for my 57-year-old brain.

In the last few years, unable to hold a list of just four grocery items in my head, I began to worry about my state of mind. So to comfort myself that nothing was wrong, just before learning French I took a test. I scored below average for my age group in all of the subjects.

Because learning a foreign language is a difficult task for adults, I worked my brains hard to learn it. Surprisingly, my failure at French study produced an unexpected benefits. After a year of struggling with the language, I retook the test, and the results shocked me. My scores had improved, placing me above average in seven of 10 subjects, and average in the other three. My verbal memory score jumped from the bottom half to the 88. Studying a language had been like drinking from a mental fountain of youth.

What might explain such an improvement?

A researcher said that language study was beneficial to older adults, noting that the cognitive(认知) tasks involved — including working memory, and task switching — are closely related to the areas of the brain that are most connected with declines due to aging. In other words, the things that make second language study so mad for grown-ups are the very things that may make the effort so beneficial. So I plan to spend the next year learning Italian.

32. According to the text, Rosetta Stone is ____________.

A. a person who helps the author learn French

B. a Frenc h study group

C. a kind of self-instruction software

D. a French study programme

33. How do you understand the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3?

A. Giving up language study is totally wrong.

B. Studying a language satisfies your needs.

C. Studying a language gives you much pleasure.

D. Studying a language makes your brain young.

34. What might explain the author’s memory improvement?

A. Learning French trained part of his brain.

B. Cognitive tasks are interesting.

C. A strong will is the key to his success.

D. Taking two tests made him clever.

35. Why did the author want to learn Italian?

A. To challenge himself.

B. To get more benefits.

C. To know Italian culture.

D. To travel to Italy.

Do's And Don'ts Of Donating

Giving up your unused or unwanted stuff is a great way to make space in your home for the items that you do enjoy on a regular basis. 36 Here are 4 do's and don'ts of donating your belongings.

Do Prep Your Clothes

You've thoroughly cleaned out your closets and drawers, and have a mountain of clothing waiting to be donated. Before you bag up these pieces, examine each one to ensure that they’re in good condition. Make sure all buttons are fastened, and that you can't see any dirty spots. 37

Don’t Donate Damaged Items

The number one rule of donating your stuff is to make sure that it' s in good, useable condition. Don’t donate clothes or furniture with rips(裂口)or stains, chipped dishes, or books that are

missing pages. 38 Find a local company that will recycle these items instead.

Do Donate More Than Just Clothes

40

With a little common sense it's easy to figure out items that are ideal for donation. But unfortunately some people will throw away the contents of their home without a second thought. As a gentle reminder, it’s never a good idea to donate car parts, flammable products, construction materials, weapons, or explosives.

2017-2018学年高二年级周练二英语试卷

江西省安义中学2017-2018学年度上学期高二英语第二次周练试卷 第一节阅读理解 Life is not easy in senior high school. You’ve got the pressure of studies and exams. From time to time, you may feel depressed and frustrated. When depression strikes, you have to take measures to fight it. One of the strangest ways to fight depression is to eat salt, scientists have found. Salt acts as a natural anti—depressant (抗抑郁剂), researchers say. While too much can lead to high blood pressure and heart disease, not enough can cause “psychological(心理的) d epressions”, a study has reported. The study, by researchers at the University of Iowa in the US, discovered that when rats are deficient in salt, they don’t do activities they normally enjoy. The recommended daily salt intake for an adult is four grams, although experts say the body needs only half as much. However, most adults in the developed world consume(消耗)around ten grams a day, mainly because their diets contain high salt amounts. Today, 77 percent of US salt intake comes from processed and restaurant foods, like frozen dinners and fast food. The minerals in salt are required by the body—in small quantities—to help move liquid in and out of cells. But too much can cause diseases, for example high blood pressure. Today scientists are finding that salt is an addictive substance—almost like a drug. One s ign of addiction is using a substance even when it’s known to be harmful. Many people are told to eat less salt due to health concerns, but they have trouble doing so because they like the taste and find low-salt foods tasteless. Humans have a long histor y of eating salt. In the Stone Age, people didn’t need to find salt, because they hunted most of their food, and ate a lot of red meat, which has plenty of salt in it. But when people began to farm, about 10,000 BC, they started to eat mainly grains like rice and wheat, and very little meat. Then they had to find another way to get salt. 1. What does the underlined word "deficient" in the third paragraph mean? A. enough B. far from enough C. more than enough D. plenty 2. The major role of salt is to ____________. A. help the body work well B. help fight against depression C. help people get rid of an addiction to drugs D. help people enjoy sugary substances 3. Which of the following statements is true? A. People have trouble reducing salt because they don't know it is harmful to eat too much of it. B. Before 10,000 BC, human beings did not need salt. C. The richer the country is, the more salt is eaten there. D. Taking more than 4 grams of salt a day can be harmful for an adult's health. 4. What kind of food should people eat more of? A. Frozen food B. Fast food C. Red meat D Low--salt food 第二节:七选五 Everyone knows that the Frenchmen are romantic, the Italians are fashionable and the Germans are serious. Are these just stereotypes(刻板印象) or is there really such a thing as national character? And if there is, can it affect how a nation succeed or fail? At least one group of people is certain that it can. A recent survey of the top 500 entrepreneurs (企业家) in the UK found that 70% felt that their efforts were not appreciated by the British public. Britain is hostile (敌意的) to success, they said. It has a culture of jealousy(嫉妒).__5__ Jealousy is sometimes known as the “green-eyed monster” and the UK is its home. Scientists at Warwich University in the UK recently tested this idea. They gathered a group of people together and gave each an imaginary amount of money.__6__ Those given a little were given the chance to destroy the large amount of money given to others— but at the cost of losing their own. Two thirds of the people tested agreed to do this. __7__. But there is also opposite evidence. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development recently reported that the UK is now the world's fourth largest economy. That is not bad for people who are supposed to hate success. People in the UK also work longer hours than anyone else in Europe. So the British people are not lazy, either. “It is not really success that the British dislike,” says Carey Cooper, a professor of management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. “It’s people using their success in a way that seems proud or unfair or which separates them from their roots.” _8__ They set out to do things in their way. They work long hours. By their own efforts they become millionaires.__9__ It hardly seems worth following their example. If they were more friendly, people would like them more. And more people want to be like them. A. This seems to prove that the entrepreneurs were right to complain. B. The one who owns most money in the end is the winner.

A Well, parents, surprise! Lots of us are using Twitter and Facebook to find rides, and not just to school. It’s awkward to call a friend and ask for a ride, and half the time they’ll say, “Sorry, my car is full.” But with Twitter, you just tweet #Ashleys Pool Party and look for other people heading the same way. It may sound risky, but many teens stay within their own social circles to find rides, and don’t branch out beyond friends when asking on Twitter. For me, I only rideshare with people I know, but to some young people, especially those taking longer trips, stranger danger is less of a concern. The sharing economy got big during the recession(经济衰退). It allows people to access more goods and services using technology, while also allowing them to share cost. And that technology, for me, is what the car was for my mom, a gateway to more freedom. According to the researchers at the University of Michigan, 30 years ago, eight in ten American 18-year-olds had a driver’s license. Today it’s six in ten. So it’s not that surprising that on my 16th birthday I wasn’t rushing to get a license. All I wanted was an iPhone. Juliet Schor (Sociology professor at Boston College) knows people of my age love being connected and for young people driving means they have to disconnect from their technology, and that’s a negative. So if they could sit in the passenger side and still be connected, that’s going to be a plus. To me, another plus is ridesharing represents something more than trying to save money. I see it as evidence that people still depend on each other. My generation shares their cars and apartments the way neighbors used to share cups of sugar. For the system to work, some of us still need our own cars. But until I get my own version of the silver Super Beetle, you can find me on Twitter. 21 The writer usually rideshares with _____. A. anyone heading the same way B. people he knows
