一、元音字母、组合的读音
英语共有26个字母，其中A-a, E-e, I-i, O-o, U-u是元音字母。因为字母y在词首是辅音字母，在词中和词尾是元音字母，语音学家根据它同时具有两种读音的性质，把它定位半元音字母。在讲元音字母及元音字母组合的读音，辅音字母及辅音字母组合的读音时都要讲到y的读音。
开音节的定义
①绝对开音节：每个元音字母后面没有辅音组合的重读音节，例如：no, blue, ba-by,
stu-dent, se-cret.
②相对开音节：单个元音字母后面加单个辅音字母，再加一个不发音字母e构成的
重读音节，例如：name, these, bike, home, ex-cuse.
闭音节的定义
单个元音字母后面有辅字母组合（r, w, y 除外）且以辅字母组合结尾的重读音节，例如：bag, egg, fish, not, cup。
1、元音字母在重读音节中的读音
A-a在开音节中读/ /,例如：name, plane, Jane, baby, cake
A-a在闭音节中读/ /,例如：bag, dad, hat, map, black, back
E-e在开音节中读/i:/, 例如：he, these, me, Chinese
E-e在闭音节中读/e/, 例如：bed, let, pen, desk, yes, egg
I-i 在开音节中读/ /, 例如：bike, drive, time, nice, kite
I-i 在闭音节中读/ /, 例如：fish, big, drink, sit, milk, swim
O-o在开音节中读/ /, 例如：those, close, go, hoe, home, no
O-o在闭音节中读/ /, 例如：clock, not, box, shop, sock
U-u在开音节中读/ju:/,例如：student, excuse, duty, Tuesday
U-u在闭音节中读/ /, 例如：bus, cup, jump, much, lunch
在开音节中，元音字母u在辅音字母j, l, r 后面时读/u:/音，例如：June, blue, ruler。
2、元音字母在非重读音节中的读音
A-a 读/ /,例如：China, another, woman, breakfast
读/ /,例如：orange, comrade, village, cabbage
E-e 读/ /,例如：hundred, student, open, weekend
读/ /,例如：chicken, pocket, begin
I-i 读/ /,例如：holiday, beautiful, family, animal
读/ /,例如：exercise, satellite
O-o 读/ /,例如：second, tonight, somebody, welcome
读/ /,例如：also, zero, photo
U-u 读/ /,例如：autumn, difficult
读/ /，例如：popular, congratulation, January
3、元音字母在重读音节中的特殊读音
A-a在/w/音后面读/ /,例如：want, what, watch, wash, quality, 在f、n、sk、ph、sp、ss、st、th前读/a:/,例如：after, plant, graph, ask, grasp, glass, fast, father I-i在-nd、-ld和gh前读/ /,例如：find, child, light, high
O-o在-st、-ld前读/ /,例如：most, postcard, old, cold; 在m、n、v、th前读/ /,例如：come, monkey, love, mother
4、元音+-r组合在重读音节中的读音
ar读/a:/, 例如：car, farm, dark, sharpener; 在/w/音后面读/ /,例如：warm, quarter, towards
or读/ /, 例如：forty, morning, short; 在/w/ 音后面读/ /,例如：word, worker, worse
er, ir, ur 读/ /, 例如：certainly, bird, Thursday
辅音字母r双写时，前面的元音字母不能与r构成-r音节，而是按重读闭音节的拼读规则发音，例如：carry, sorry, hurry。
元音+-r组合在非重读音节中通常读/ /, 例如：dollar, teacher, martyr, forget, Saturday.
5、元音+-re组合在重读音节中的读音
are读/ /,例如：care, dare, hare
ere读/ /,例如：here,mere
ire读/ /,例如：fire, hire, wire
ore读/ /,例如：pure, cure
are, ere, ire, ore 很少出现在非重读音节中，ure在非重读音节中读/ /音，例如：picture, pleasure。
6、元音组合在重读音节中的读音
ai/ay读/ /,例如：afraid, rain, wait, day, play
air读/ /,例如：air, hair, chair, pair, repair
al读/ /,例如：small, ball, talk, wall, all;读/ /,例如：always, also, salt, almost, bald;读/ /,
