Beauty and the Beast conveys a simple but very important message: being kind to others and refraining from judging others by appearances, for beauty is found within. It also gives insights into human nature of how true love can change even the darkest and coldest side of hearts.

In the movie, a once handsome young prince (1) has been transformed into a hideous beast as a punishment for his being cold-hearted and making judgments based on appearance. He has been cursed to remain a beast until (2) he learns how to love and be loved in return. When Belle shows up at his doorstep, he is filled with both hope and fear; he hopes that she may be (3) "the one" to break the spell, and fears that she may be repulsed by his ugliness.

Belle hates the Beast at first, but when he risks his life, fighting off the wolves, to rescue her, Belle feels (4) the heart of a true hero beating inside him. And as they come together, Belle gradually finds that the Beast, despite his frightening appearance, has a kind and gentle soul. The Beast (5) has been changed by true love, and finally transformed back to a handsome prince, which suggests that love can transform people out of their beastly nature into the spiritualized human beings they really are. (6) Love conquers all, changes all and makes all things possible.

The villain in the movie is a young man named Gaston who is tall, strong and handsome, but shallow, rude and conceited. Gaston has been courting Belle just because (7) she is considered the most beautiful girl in the town. He will do anything to make her his wife, including threatening to have her father thrown into the madhouse. When he senses her affection for the Beast, (8) he recognizes the Beast as his rival for her love and organizes the mob to kill the Beast.

Here on one hand, we have the Beast: a man trapped in a beast's body. Underneath the monster appearance, he has a kind and loving heart. On the other hand, we have Gaston:

(9) an animal wrapped in a human body. Although he has good looks, he is a horrible, selfish person. Both characters contrast each other and reinforce the message that (10) people shouldn't be judged by their outer appearance and that it is what lies inside that really counts.
