高二英语试题

第一卷

第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30 分)

A

It’s no secret that your personal characteristics directly affect how you interact with the world, but you might be surprised at just how deep it goes. Experts think that your personality can even affect how you exercise and influence what sports are suitable for you.

Highly Sensitive

Highly sensitive people may be more uncomfortable with group exercise classes or team sports where they feel their every move is being observed. Additionally, they may feel more upset over an ineffective or poor workout, says researcher Elaine Aron.

For such people, individual or non-competitive activities like biking, running and hiking are ideal.

Type A Personality

Type A individuals often have an “all or nothing approach” to exercise. This personality type is known for sticking closely to their plan, not to mention being super competitive. However, this can cause them to stick too closely to a fitness routine, which means they might try to push past an injury.

To get better exercise results, Type A people need to be aware that following an exercise plan too strictly may limit their progress. They should be more flexible and listen to their body, especially when they are in pain.

Type B Personality

This laid-back group may get too lazy about their exercise plan, which prevents them from seeing results. They are often less willing to devote enough time and energy to their fitness goals, especially if exercise is something that makes them anxious.

Type B individuals succeed in creative and co-operative environments, so team

sports and group gym classes may be perfect.

Remember, there are plenty of ways you can adapt a fitness plan to suit your needs, regardless of your characteristics. Just keep in mind what you like.

1. Why might highly sensitive people be unwilling to take part in group sports?

A. They will feel like they are being evaluated.

B. They don't like socializing with other people.

C. They don't consider themselves to be athletic.

D. They fear they'll be let down by their teammates.

2. Type A personalities can be best described as_________.

A. committed.

B. flexible.

C. independent.

D. sensitive.

3. What is the purpose of the text?

A. To help people understand what personality type they are.

B. To explain how personal characteristics affect exercise habits.

C. To identify the dangers of doing the wrong type of exercise.

D. To describe different types of workouts that are available today.

B

If it were up to me, I’d write this piece next week or even later. Let the dust settle a bit. But I have my father’s insistent voice in my head: the story is now, so you write it now. No one wants to read last week’s news.

My father Michael was a journalist. He started at age 16 on his local paper, the Luton News, and after nine years there, he went on to a six-decade career that saw him write more than 40 biographies of Hollywood stars and spend a quarter-century presenting a weekly radio show.

From him I learned about deadlines and accuracy, and absorbed his rule about professional clothing, one he had been taught by his first boss. Even when he was working at home, my father would follow that rule: shirt and tie, every day.

There were other less obvious lessons. The first is about being manly. Driven and competitive, he wasn’t present for the birth of any of his three children, but

he was the very model of being loving and faithful. My father never took me to the football or taught me to change a tyre. In a pub, he might manage some drinks, but his main focus would usually be the food menu. He was a model of a different kind of maleness.

But perhaps the biggest lesson I learned from him was about resilience (恢复). He got deep blows, losing both his wife and firstborn child, my sister Fiona, within two years of each other. And yet, somehow, he got back up again. He taught himself to cook and continued to dress neatly, picking out a bright jacket that ensured he stood out in a room. He would meet editors and write stories with the same hunger he had 65 years earlier. Younger colleagues keep using the same word about him: appealing.

I hope I learned his resilience, the way I learned about being a journalist. People keep telling me that my father was proud of me; and the truth is I was proud of him. Raised in a hard-up corner of wartime England, he went off to see the world—and he never stopped looking forward and upward, staring at the stars.

4. What has made the author write down the text so soon?

A. His father’s words motivated him to do so.

B. He wanted to settle down after the writing.

C. He wanted to write it before he forgot it.

D. It was the story he insisted on writing.

5. What was the author’s impression of his father?

A. He always managed to dress up following the fashion.

B. He sometimes had a hard time meeting the work deadline.

C. He trained the author to be manly and do the basic things.

D. He was competitive at work and remained a loving Dad.

6. What was the best lesson the author learned from his father?

A. The necessity of keeping good shape.

B. Quick recovery from suffering or blow.

C. The ability to get a content career.

D. The pride one takes in his/her parents.

7. What can be a suitable title for the text?

A. Dad Left a Deep Impression on Me for His Work

B. Dad Proved Faithful and Loving for the Family

C. My Dad Showed How to Be a Journalist and a Man

D. I Learned to Recover Quickly after a Suffering

C

Here’s an idea whose time has come: A flu shot that doesn’t require an actual shot.

For the first time, researchers have tested a flu vaccine patch (疫苗贴) in a human clinical trial and found that it delivered as much protection as a traditional injection with a needle. Doctors and public health experts have high hopes that it will increase the number of people who get immunized (免疫的) against the flu.

Seasonal flu is responsible for up to half a million deaths around the world each year according to the World Health Organization. A team led by Georgia Tech engineer Mark Prausnitz has come up with another method that uses “microneedles”. These tiny needles are so small that 100 of them, arranged in order on a patch, can fit under your thumb.Yet they’re big enough to hold vaccine for three types of flu.

None of the study volunteers had serious side effects. The groups that got patches had mild skin reactions that were not seen in the regular needle group, while the volunteers in the regular needle group were more likely to experience pain. Overall, 70 percent of the volunteers who got vaccine patches said they’d rather use them again than get a traditional flu shot. The study authors declared it a success on all fronts.

The biggest beneficiaries could be people in low- and middle-income countries, where flu vaccines are hard to come by. Reducing pain is nice, but other benefits—the patch costs less,is easier to transport, doesn’t require refrigeration, can be self-administered and doesn’t cause waste of needles-are even better.

“Microneedle Patches have the potential to become ideal candidates for

vaccination programs,” wrote Katja Hoschler and Maria Zambon o f Public Health England.

8. What is the passage mainly about?

A. A vaccine patch that cures people of their flu.

B. A clinical study that protects people from disease.

C. A patch that makes flu shots a thing of the past.

D. A method that makes traditional flu shots painless.

9. What do we know about the vaccine patch?

A. It is produced by the WHO.

B. It causes slight side effects.

C. It delivers vaccine to the little finger.

D. It works badly on 30% of the volunteers.

10. The new patch has all the following benefits except that ________.

A. it is provided free of charge

B. it can be used without a doctor

C. it can he kept at room temperature

D. it needs less care in transportation

11. What is Kaija and Maria’s attitude towards the new shot?

A. Cautious.

B. Favorable.

C. Ambiguous.

D. Disapproving.

D

For high school leavers starting out in the working world, it is very important to learn particular skills and practise how to behave in an interview or how to find all internship(实习). In some countries, schools have programs to help students onto the path to work. In the United States, however, such programs are still few and far between.

Research shows that if high schools provide career-related courses, students are likely to get higher earnings in later years. The students are more likely to stay in school, graduate and go on to higher education.

In Germany, students as young as 13 and 14 are expected to do internships. German companies work with schools to make sure that young people get the education they

need for future employment.

But in America, education reform programs focus on how well students do in exams instead of bringing them into contact with the working world. Harvard Education school professor Robert Schwartz has criticized education reformers for trying to place all graduates directly on the four-year college track. Schwartz argued that this approach leaves the country’s most vulnerable(易受影响的) kids with no jobs and no skills.

Schwartz believed that the best career programs encourage kids to go for higher education while also teaching them valuable practical skills at high school. James Madison High School in New York, for example, encourages students to choose classes on career-based courses. The school then helps them gain on-the-job experience in those fields while they’re still at high school.

However, even for teens whose schools encourage them to connect with work, the job market is daunting. In the US,unemployment rates for 16-to-l9-year-olds are above 20 percent for the third summer in a row.

“The risk is that if teenagers miss out on the summer job experience, they become part of this generation of teens who had trouble in landing a job,” said Michael,

a researcher in the US.

12. In the author’s opinion, American high school leavers _______.

A. have enough career-related courses

B. need more career advice from their schools

C. perform better in exams than German students

D. can get higher earnings in later years

13. According to Robert Schwartz, ________.

A. there is no need for kids to go for higher education in the US

B. students should get contact with the working world at high school

C. education reform should focus on students’ performance in exams

D. teenagers in the US can’t miss out on the summer job experience

14. What can be inferred from the text?

A. Unemployment rates for US teenagers remain high at the moment.

B. Students with career-based courses never have problems finding a job.

https://www.sodocs.net/doc/9910680193.html, companies work with schools to prepare young people for future employment.

D. High school leavers with no practical skills can’t find a job absolutely.

15. The underlined word “daunting” in Paragraph 6 most probably means _______.

A. discouraging

B. interesting

C. creative

D. unbearable
