5) Use proper transitional words, which give readers signals of the thinking direction, so as to

make the article more coherent and easy to be understood.

1, Always remember to use polite language in an invitation letter as you are inviting someone and hence you need to be careful in your attitude.

2, Provide essential information in the letter like the time, place and purpose of your invitation.

3, Try to be as concise as possible because people don’t have much time for reading. 4, If there is a cost for attending the event, include the amount.

5, If refreshments or a meal will be served at the event, include this information in the letter.

A simple sentence , also called an independent clause, contains a subject and a verb , and it expresses a complete thought. There are five basic sentence patterns.

5, In closing, express best wishes.

6, Keep your letter positive and don’t include any negative comments or unhappy news. 7, Try to avoid excessive flattery.

Tips on Writing:

A letter of thanks:

☆Address your letter to a specific person, if possible, not just the company or organization in general.

☆Describe what you are grateful for ( not just “ the lovely gift ”or “ the nice present ” ).

☆Elaborate on your appreciation. Tell how useful or appropriate it is, how you plan to use it, where you have placed it, or how it enhances your life, home, office.

☆Write clearly and concisely.

☆Be sincere—most people can sense when you aren’t being honest.

☆Write the thank-you letter as soon as possible after the event.

☆Proofread the letter before sending it. Grammatical errors and typos are sloppy and unprofessional.

Letters of complaint:

☆Include your contact information (name, address, phone number, and email address) so that the person(s) can reach you to discuss any questions or concerns.

☆Provide the relevant facts, dates, names, and details clearly.

☆State exactly what you want done about the problem and when you expect your complaint to be resolved.

☆Express confidence that your complaint letter will be addressed promptly and the problem settled satisfactorily.

☆Write your letter with a friendly and complimentary tone and avoid writing an angry, sarcastic, or threatening letter. The person reading your letter probably was not responsible for your problem but may be very helpful in resolving it.

☆Make your letter brief and to the point.

Step 3. Summary

Thanks letter:

The main purpose of the letter of thanks is to give thanks for something the recipient has done. Thanks are often expressed with a preposition “ for ” followed by a Noun, a V-ing phrase or a Noun modified by an attributive clause.

Complaint:

It is advisable to use polite tone in the letter of complaint to make effective requests and demands.

Here are some patterns used in polite requests:

Tips on Writing

☆Start with a job title that clearly describes the job position to attract reader’s attention. Include the required experience level within the title so job seekers can easily determine whether they may qualify.

☆Describe your company briefly. Include approximate number of employees, type of product or service you supply, number of years in business and office locations.

☆Describe specific job responsibilities.

☆Introduce qualification requirements including education and specific skills.

☆The description must be easy to read, simple and concise.

☆End the job advertisement explaining how to apply for the job. Give contact details of where to send the résumé, such as email address or fax number.

☆Use bias-free language without mentioning sex, age or marital status.

☆Don’t use abbreviations if possible, as shorten words can be confusing. Subject-Verb Agreement

Subject-verb agreement can be one of the more challenging aspects of writing. The most important rule in subject-verb agreement is that the verb must agree with the intended number of the subject (first, second, or third).

“看图作文”专题

2015年6月英语四级作文考察的是图画作文。图画作文是一种考题趋势,可以把它看成是我们小学时练习的“看图说话”。虽然题目不会给出提纲,但是基本的写作思路是固定的:描述图片、阐明观点、给出建议。

第一段重点是一定要描述图画内容,这点在题干中也有强调(with a brief description of the picture)。对图画内容的描述可以饮用图画中人物的对话。简要描述即可,不用发散或挖掘。也就意味着,事实上你若看不懂图画中的“核心”,其实没关系,照抄就好。

第二段阐明观点,而观点在题干中事实上给得很清楚:the importance of doing small things before undertaking something big. 这进一步说明仔细审清题干比看懂图画中的对话更重要。阐明观点之后的思路与一般的六级提纲型写作一致,如我们一般在课上所提的,可以先举例说明现象、然后再探讨导致现象的原因以及该现象可能导致的影响等;还可结合数字、研究、名言等进行论证。

末段除了总结观点外,一般还可以提出建议。这段的写法无论是图画、图表还是提纲写作、甚至格言谚语型写作,都差别不大。

四级考察图画作文。这说明四六级的出题思路不再拘泥于传统的提纲写作,开始进行多种变化。无论哪种考法,最核心的仍然是:仔细审题、清晰思路和不要犯错。四六级一贯会在写作题干中包含重要信息甚至观点,因此审题必不可少;文章只要没有犯语言错误,即便遣词造句不那么漂亮,分数也不会低。

课后反思 随着英语新课程的实践,新课程的理念也在不断深入人心,学生的听、说、读、写等各种能力在一定程度上得到了提高,学生的输出(output)能力受到普遍的关注。作为考查学生输出能力的写作能力的培养已经显得越来越重要。英语写作能力是衡量学生英语综合水平和应用能力的一个重要方面。英语写作是初中英语教学的一大重点,也是一大难点。尤其是普通班的孩子,更是如此。很多同学面对英语作文往往要么望而生畏,一脸茫然。要么不知如何下笔,要么写出来的作文出现的错误太多如:语法运用不对,词组搭配不当,句型用法不对,中国式语序,以及文章不连贯、顺畅等不规范的地方。 以往我们英语教师走进教室。“同学们,我们今天上一节写作课。”一听说要写作文,肯定就会有同学耷拉下脑袋,情绪低落下来。这些同学考试时最怕的就是作文,经常空在那里不写。不是一点不会写而是因害怕而逃避。不愿意动脑筋思考,见难就躲,这种消极的情绪严重地影响了他们学英语的积极性,这也是他们英语成绩不理想的原因之一。本节课,我改变了新的教学方法。 我今天的这节课是中考英语作文的写作训练课。首先,我给孩子们朗读了一首所谓的“藏头诗”进行话题导入。孩子们听完这首“藏头诗”之后无不捧腹大笑。通过这样的导入方法大大缓解了孩子们课前的恐惧和拘谨。然后的开题和研讨就都在这种和谐的氛围下自然而然地徐徐展开。 在实际的点评研讨过程中,我引出如何把两个简单句用连接词

连在一起,使句子变得更加漂亮。讲练过程中自然地复习了以前学过的许多语法知识和许多连接词的用法,对定语从句,分词短语,介词短语等有了更加清晰的认识。通过把两个句子合并成一句,到把几个句子变成一段文章,循序渐进,层层深入。通过对同一个文章的几种不同写法的展示,让学生很自然地了解了英语作文中什么样的句子才能拿高分,学会了怎样把句子加工,润色,使之更加完美。课堂还做了大量的练习,让学生能够举一反三,记忆深刻。最后还教会了学生每段文章都要有主题句,如何寻找主题句,每个主题句都要由句子做支撑,这样不仅对学生的写作有好处,对阅读理解题也有很大帮助。 孩子们都能积极地构建自己写作的思维导图。成绩好的同学可多写,甚至可做发挥,超出我们准备的范围,基础差的同学篇幅可短一些,不会的表达法可以问老师和同学。他们在写的时候,我观察了一下。所有同学都动笔写了。没有人再像以前那样茫然不知所措。十分钟后,大部分同学都写完了。我共抽取了四位同学进行展示,大家听得认真,点评得起劲,纠错严格。整个课堂欢声笑语,气氛热烈。然后,我让其他同学把写好的作文交给自己所写的好朋友批改。大家互相纠错,最后交到我这里来批阅。大家感到今天的作文课特别轻松。 当天的家庭作业似乎没人觉得有困难。好像觉得写英语作文不是个难事。从前觉得写英语作文就害怕,今天在这节课上得一点感觉都没有,而且觉得时间过得特别快。今天的英语写作课每个同学都动笔了,这是一个很好的现象。同学们的自信心增强了很多。有了自信心他们就不怕困难,会积极进取,追求成功,从而提高他们的英语写作
