Section A 1a~2d

Class type: listening and speaking class

Background information: class 14, grade 7 ,changqing shiyan middle school, 51 students. About half of the students could reach the requirement for a grade 7 student.

Teaching contents: this section is focus on the expressions about tranporations and distance.

Teaching objectives:

Knowledge objectives:

1.Students will remeber the following words and phrases: train, bus, subway, ride,

bike, seventy, eighty, ninety, hundred, far, minute, kilometre.new, every, every day 2.Students will master following sentences:

How do you get to school? I ….

How does she get to school? She …

How far is it from… to…? It’s … kilometres.

How long does take? It takes about…minutes/hours.

Ability objectives:

1.Students will be able to talk about how to get to places.

2.Students will be able to talk about distance.

Emotional objective:

1.Students will be able to talk about their daily life in English.

2.Students will know about more traffic ways and be able to choose the best way for

their outgoing according to how far the distance will be.

Help students to master the following grammer knowledges:

1.Special questions leaded by how/how far/how long

2.Different expressions about transportation.

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Warming up and lead-in

Greeting.

Lead in the topic by showing students five pictures which is about train, bus,subway,bike and walk respectively.

Students try to say their English names.

Talk about different trafffic ways of getting to school with class.

Step 2. Presentation.

Show the following expressions to students on the big screen,teach students these phrases:

Take the train/by train; take the bus/by bus; take the subway/by subway; ride a bike/by bike; walk/on foot

Explain the differents places of each group and make sentences for example. Present the question and explain the meaning:

How do you get to school?

How does she get to school?

How do they get to school?

Step 3. Practice.

Translation practice: from Chinese to English.

Students make conversations with those sentences and phrases according to their daily life in groups.

Practice the questions of the singular form in the third personal to help students master it.

Step 4.Listening and speaking.

Play the recording.

Students listen and finish the exercises 1a: match the word with pictures.

Check the answers with the class.

Students listen and write the numbers next to the correct students in the picture of 1a. Pair work: students check their answers in pairs and make conversations.

Choose volunteers to make conversations to the class.

Step 5. Presentation.

Revise the numbers, twenty, thirty, forty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety and teach the new word hundred.

Play the recording.

Students listen and repeat, then write the correct number next to the word.

Present and teach the new words and sentences: minute, kilometer, how long does it take…? It takes…H ow far is it from …to…? It’s about…

Step 6. Practice

Students try to make conversations with those expressions. Give them an example if necessary.

Play the recording for two times.

Firstly, students listen and complete the chart in 1b.secondly, students check their answers.

Choose one students to read out his answers before class.

Listen and repeat. Students try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation

Step 7. Pair work.

Students use the information in 2b to make conversations in pairs.

Students make conversations according to their real life.

Teacher chooses five pairs of partner to show their conversations before class.

Step 8. Summary and homework.
